I'm writing this at 9:33 am and I have an Informational Interview scheduled at 10:00, so I am in a race against the clock so that I can have breakfast before I log onto Zoom to learn things about the publishing industry. I'm more nervous than usual because I'm such an outsider.
TWO THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR (SPECIFIC)
1. The career center advised me to check out a book called "The 2-Hour Job Search" by Steve Dalton. It covers how to have an informational interview and I'm so grateful for it because talking to a stranger in this way is so anxiety-inducing it's nice to have a script to follow.
2. These sections are always so hard even when I'm not under a time constraint. I am grateful for my wife, amidst her morning preparations to go get a tattoo, went and got me a bowl of cereal so I didn't have to interrupt writing my blog before my informational interview.
ONE THING THAT WENT WELL DURING THE DAY
I dug into my opening chapter and found unexplored character depths, subtext, layers, all that good stuff. I found the conflict between the two characters introduced in chapter one. Their reunion has thus far been friendly, amicable, and therefore ... dramatically limp. No longer!
ONE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL ACTION ITEM FOR THE DAY
Have the informational interview? I mean, with my anxiety I really have no mental map of what comes after. It is 9:52 am. I've got 8 minutes and the Zoom window is open. The questions are prepped. I'm fine. This is fine. Honestly, joking like this is making the anxiety worse.
WHATEVER IS ON MY MIND
Wizard of the Coast's statement regarding the OGL reminds me of that @dril tweet, "'im not owned! im not owned!!', i continue to insist as i slowly shrink and transform into a corn cob". 10/10 guys. Solid walk back from shooting yourself in the dick.
