Ooph, late morning. I burned too many spoons yesterday. I was like, "Hey, let's grab some more boxes," and she was like, "Hey, maybe we have enough at home to sort," and I was like, "Naaaah," and then I overwhelmed myself with shit to sort and, well, burned all my spoons.
TWO THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR (SPECIFIC)
1. Let's just say I'm grateful for Cassie not saying, "I told you so," when I ended up surrounded by like, 5 shoe-boxes worth of papers that haven't seen the light of day since 2017 and I should probably just burn but felt compelled to sort into half-a-dozen piles.
2. I am grateful for not lighting all my old shit on fire because while sorting it I found a pile of gift cards I'd set aside for safekeeping and ... lost. Listen, folks, I was a mess of a kid. Trauma took up most of my brain, but hey, now I have gift cards. Some are still good!
ONE THING THAT WENT WELL DURING THE DAY
Stress and anxiety aside, we did a lot of sorting and organizing and I even threw out an entire bin of stuff, which is a lot for me. As I've said before, raised by a functional hoarder in a 10-year custody battle, my stuff became a proxy for safety. But I'm learning to let go.
ONE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL ACTION ITEM FOR THE DAY
God, I feel like Spike when he asks Buffy, "Can we rest now," except not as shirtless, rambly, or physically fit as James Marsters. Okay, maybe as rambly. Today (I hope) is a rest day where I can get some writing done on my game stuff and my novel stuff.
WHATEVER IS ON MY MIND
Today I am staring at the blinking cursor, funnily enough, without blinking, trying to will a worthwhile thought into my brain through sheer force of will and desperation to write something down for y'all, posterity, and my future self should he ever look back at these blogs.
WAIT! While sorting I found a letter to my future self from 2010. It started with a Calvin and Hobbes reference and ended with a Buffy reference. I also hoped I was published. So I really haven't changed. I'm still not published and I still reference Buffy and Calvin and Hobbes.
