Alright, grocery shopping is done, back home with the space heater going full blast because today's high is going to be 23°F. Couldn't tell you why I woke up an hour earlier than usual but fortunately, my wife bought me a booklight so I just spent the time reading.

TWO THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR (SPECIFIC)

1. Ah, hell, I'm grateful for Critical Role. Watching "The Legend of Vox Machina" season 2 was like reopening old wounds. I'd honestly forgotten how much I fell in love with this particular cast of misfits, assholes, and heroes. For all the lowbrow humor I still find myself moved.

2. This was a struggle today, but I'm grateful for Numenera. I'm grateful for the chance to play it again after having so much fun in the system several years ago. It was my first TTRPG so this feels like coming home. I'm excited to embrace its even weirder facets this time.

ONE THING THAT WENT WELL DURING THE DAY

What did I even do yesterday? No, really. I ... played some "Miles Morales", I ... finished reading "The City We Became", I ... went for my walk? Cleaned up? It's more like a tapestry of little things that went well instead of one big thing.

ONE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL ACTION ITEM FOR THE DAY

Unfortunately, today is a storage unit day. I've got bins of old clothes that need to be sorted into vacuum bags and put into storage. Once that is done my landlord can stop complaining that the bins in the hallway are a fire-safety concern.

WHATEVER IS ON MY MIND

Man, my brain is all over the place this morning. I haven't had this much trouble writing a blog in a while. My therapist warned me that if the blog ever got stale I should feel open to change it up, do something different. I'll keep that in mind going into tomorrow.

It might not even be a big thing, could just be an off day, y'know? I'm certainly not beating myself up about the struggle. It happens sometimes. Maybe someday I'll read these through and see a, well, throughline that I'm not seeing right now. It's always possible.
All best,
Shane Z

THE BOOK NOOK

The City We Became
N.K. Jemisin

This book was so good! It took a little while for me to get fully drawn into the story but once I was I remained hooked until the end. Rather funny coincidence of reading this and playing Miles Morales back to back. I almost feel like I have a sense of New York City.
