10/13/2023, A DMable Day

Writer: Shane ZellowShane Zellow

Welcome back, gang! Having a bit of a Depressive spell which is appropriate as I close in on finishing version 2 of the Anxiety Supplement. Silver lining! I incorporated all of the Anxiety mechanics and ideas I brainstormed yesterday and even sent it out to a few beta readers (let me know if you'd like to be included!)

TWO THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR (SPECIFIC)

1. I am grateful for the soundtracks to the Spider-Verse movies because they were a much-needed source of inspiration and motivation as I was working. Damn, those tracks are so good. I need to rewatch Across the Spider-Verse. It's just long enough to be hard to find time for.

2. I am grateful for "The Dawn of Everything" by David Graeber and David Wengrow. I picked it up on impulse when I was at City Lights in San Francisco and so far I am loving it. Nothing like reading centuries-old criticisms of Christianity from the perspective of Native Americans

ONE THING THAT WENT WELL DURING THE DAY

Like I said before, I feel pretty good about the headway I made on my Anxiety Supplement. I also got another job application sent out. Fingers crossed to keep some of this momentum going for a few more days. I'll appreciate and enjoy it as long as it lasts.

ONE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL ACTION ITEM FOR THE DAY

I could look over my Depression Supplement Rough Draft and start brainstorming how to update it to version 2 as well. My goal is to get all of them updated as I go so I can keep iterating on the Mental Health Mechanic holistically and not piecemeal.

WHATEVER IS ON MY MIND

What are your favorite DMing resources? I've been perusing Matt Mercer's "DM Tips", Matt Colville's "Running the Game", Brennan Lee Mulligan's "Adventuring Academy", as well as Ginny D, Bob the Worldbuilder, Web DM, How to be a Great DM, Dungeon Craft, Dungeon Masterpiece, and so many more!

Not that I think my DMing is in dire need of improvement. I just really enjoy immersing myself in other people's advice and opinions. There are so many experienced people in the world excited to share their knowledge and I love taking advantage of that.

All best,
Shane Zellow
