On the one hand, I got to spend time with my brother-in-law yesterday and he's a sweetheart, on the other he treated us to Chinese food and despite doing an extra half-hour of exercise my weight popped up an extra pound. The holidays are brutal on a diet.
TWO THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR (SPECIFIC)
1. Once again my wife graces this list, in this case, because she agreed to go for our daily walk after her brother left, which is how we ended up walking down an icy path after sunset. She figured that after such a heavy lunch I'd want to burn off as many calories as possible.
2. My brother-in-law was (rightfully) horrified by some of my childhood stories. As he struggled to find words to articulate his feelings he landed on, "I'm glad our family can
be a source of stability in your life." I'm
comfortable saying I'm grateful for that too.
ONE THING THAT WENT WELL DURING THE DAY
Because we ate a heavy lunch it did give me the chance to test my new off-brand Fitbit watch's exercise settings. All I did was light yoga for half an hour and seemingly burned about 250 calories. That gives me one more tool in my weight loss toolbelt.
ONE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL ACTION ITEM FOR THE DAY
We're back at it with the D&D (Not) One-Shot. One thing I want to explore more thoroughly is puzzle design. I admit I struggle to grok puzzles. I love them in theory, and I enjoy them in video games, but TTRPGs don't lend themselves to a 3D space; they require a finer touch.
WHATEVER IS ON MY MIND
I keep circling back to consuming more art and media. I really do believe that a good artist consumes ravenously and from all corners. You never know what might teach you a cool lesson or change your view on how something can be done or a feeling expressed. I love that stuff.
