Hey Gang! So we're starting today off right with simmering anxiety. This week my therapist and I will be back at EMDR (I expect) and I'm cycling through my grounding techniques in anticipation of, let's call it, heightened emotional distress.
TWO THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR (SPECIFIC)
1. I am grateful for the Safe Space technique and the Lockbox technique. I've been very bad about implementing them when it would have helped. So maybe by repeatedly bringing it up in every possible context, it'll remind me that I have tools at my disposal. Maybe.
2. I am grateful for my old Numenera players giving me their blessing to introduce their old characters in my new game as high-level NPCs. I just kinda love getting to help those characters live on, especially after having so many adventures with them. My first adventures at that.
ONE THING THAT WENT WELL DURING THE DAY
I did some rewrites on chapter 5 of my novel. I think we're honing in on something good (or at least something specific). It's hard with a character whose subtext is, "Conscientious and Rueful" who "Throws up walls at the first sign of trouble," to know if you nailed it or not.
ONE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL ACTION ITEM FOR THE DAY
I have an old technique I like to use where I feed my chapters through a text-to-speech program and do a read-along. It helps me catch missing or repeated words and also divorces the rhythm from how *I* would read it. I always want to make sure the writing stands on its own without me.
WHATEVER IS ON MY MIND
Not too much is on my mind right now, in a good way, because I'm thinking ahead to other stuff. I've got writing and job applications and therapy and today might end up being a busy day. Also tomorrow I meet with a nutritionist. So maybe she can help me improve my cholesterol and break my weight-loss plateau.
