6/15/2023, A Thankful Morning

Writer: Shane ZellowShane Zellow

Hey, Gang! Morning to you. I mentioned that my anxiety has been at record highs the past two weeks (feeling better now) but I developed some of the worst mouth sores I've had in recent memory. The effect that stress has on the body is awful and it makes me anxious.

...

Wait.

TWO THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR (SPECIFIC)

1. I am grateful for my friend, Nikki. The foretold phone call finally happened and it was lovely. We were two weird little goblin kids back in college processing our undiagnosed mental illness and our untreated trauma. And according to my smartwatch I walked 2 miles just pacing while we were on the phone.

2. I am grateful for my wordcount tracker. It's been so helpful in trying to get back into the swing of writing. I'm still falling behind but it never feels unmanageable. My goal was to finish my manuscript before the end of the year. According to my tracker I should finish in March.

ONE THING THAT WENT WELL DURING THE DAY

While on the phone with Nikki my cheapass phone called my buddy, Rambo 3 times (his name really is Rambo). He is my oldest friend. 7th grade, babeh! back then he played a shitton of Everquest 2. Now he does rock climbing. So, my phone sucks but in this case, it did a good. He and I don't talk enough.

ONE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL ACTION ITEM FOR THE DAY

I need to go to the pharmacy and pick up my antidepressants. Normally my supply lasts until my next appointment, which is on Monday, so I got really close but not quite. Fingers crossed that my car starts. Man, when it rains it pours.

WHATEVER IS ON MY MIND

I've got a good tribe. We're spread out a little thin but man I love them. Nikki and Nik, Chapman, Rambo and Jared, Ali and Chris, John and Charleen, my sisters, Monica and Mercedes (among others), my brother, Marcus (among others), and obviously Cassie. It's nice to know I have a place I belong with them. EMDR is wild, folks.

All best,
Shane Zellow
