Hello folks! Hope you all had a lovely [insert holiday here].
I’ve been in a bit of a holding pattern since finishing my last short story. Waiting to hear back about my submission and debating what to write next. I have ideas and options and enough seasonal depression to neglect both. Kidding. Mostly.
Option #1: Return to the novel I started writing in 2019 where five late twenty-somethings are forced to reconnect with each other and themselves by confronting their repressed traumas. Through the metaphor of time travel and shapeshifting monsters.
Option #2: Start a new novel where I explore how a leftist superhero would oppose the hierarchical status quo that perpetuates inequality, discrimination, climate change, etc. Through the metaphor of time travel and a … shapeshifting … monster.
Huh.
Option #3: Continue my current trend of writing TTRPG material to keep adding to my portfolio and maybe even post to DMs Guild or DriveThruRPG. I have plenty of ideas for one-shots that I think would be super cool. And only one of them involves time travel—I LOVE TIME TRAVEL, OKAY?
My love of time travel requires its own blog post.
As for what to write next, it’s honestly a question of insecurity. I’m in that liminal space between what I love and what I hope will be successful. Obviously, you pursue the thing you love. But success is still a viable concern. Not in a hustle culture kind of way but a “What are my priorities?” kind of way. What will help me reach my current goals?
Probably being open to new opportunities and not being afraid to put myself out there. So simple and yet so hard. So here’s to the long way round.
OH!
Option #4: Play God of War Ragnarok until my fingers fall off
